President's Message

I am delighted to welcome you to the website for the 41st Annual Conference of the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport.  The Conference will be held at the beautiful campus of California State University Fullerton Los Angeles between the 4th and 8th of September. We are delighted that the Conference will be hosted in the USA and hope many of you will make the trip.  The Association is very grateful to John Gleaves, Matthew Llewellyn and team for hosting the Conference in the exciting and vibrant city of Los Angeles.  It is a fantastic venue with much to offer in terms of leisure and recreation and weather (a sunny conference is always an extra incentive for a resident of rainy cold Wales). IAPS conferences are renowned for their friendly and cosy ethos and this tradition will be continued in L.A!

As usual, I am particularly keen to renew acquaintances, to see familiar faces, but also to meet new delegates. I’m sure that the Conference will provide a fantastic opportunity for philosophic debate and discussion, meeting new people and enjoying the best of Californian hospitality (surfboards are optional).  I hope that those who intend to visit our Annual Conference (perhaps for the first time) will consider becoming a member of the Association.  Our membership rates are very reasonable and include a number of the benefits.  These include copies of the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport, and if you are a student, eligibility for both the Student Travel Award and the Student Essay Award.  Details of membership and awards can be found on the IAPS website

I certainly can’t wait to be at the Conference and I look forward to seeing you all there.
